Long hot summer

So how are you spending your holidays?!

We are also making the most of the sunshine.

All that is taking up a lot of time at the moment, so I'm being a particularly Slow Blogger.   If you are too, don't forget you can link up on the 15th of the month and let us know what you're up to, even if it's nothing crafty.  No need to disappear off the radar!  This month's linky is being hosted by the lovely Martha of Weekend Doings, so do pay her a visit.

Now a question (yet again with the sewing machine....) With my reconditioned Brother up the spout I have pretty much decided to buy a new machine - the fact that I have a birthday this month helps since for some strange reason Bernina haven't sent me one.   I'm still dithering about what to get and compiling a list of possibilities so if you have a sewing machine that you really love, I'd be very glad to hear about it, even if it's just a feature you think is useful.  We have a good local-ish dealer, and John Lewis, so I can try some out but it's always good to know where to start.

  1. O I do miss that sort of play at our house and it's thick of winter here! I am very happy with my 25 yearold Janome, which has to be some sort of recommendation and I mused about that and what I might get if it died here

If you can be bothered. It was some sort of link up, but it seems I didn't put the link in post-duh!

  2. I have an Elna Designers Touch that I am very happy with. I bought it a few years ago from John Lewis, but I am not sure if they still stock Elna as they didn't have any on display when I was in a couple of weeks ago.

I have heard very good things about the service from David Drummond, so would think they were worth a shout.

  5. Enjoying the sun here in Suffolk too. Sat in garden with a book this afternoon , bliss. Love the train set up. We used to have a floor littered with Lego.
I have a Bernina Activa 240 which I love. Nothing fancy but does all I need, does FMQ well. Only thing I wish it had is a wider throat. Would recommend the machine though.

  6. Loving the trains in the front room, made me chuckle!! We've had a water pistol fight with next door's kids through the hedge :-) Love my Janome but its way more than I need. My mum has a little travel Elna that she bought in Oz in '72 (and brought back on the boat) and its still going strong.

  7. I have a cheap and cheerful Janome that I treat like an old banger, and to be fair, it copes well with the abuse. My real love is for my 1960s Bernina 707, which I tend to use more for dressmaking, or fiddly projects. It weighs a ton, and only has 8 stitch functions, but the stitch quality is fantastic. Best of all it actually purrs when it runs, which must be down to the Swiss engineering! It sounds as if you'll be buying from an actual shop, rather than online, which is wise as I've heard some real horror stories about buying sewing machines from well known auction sites.

    I love your photos.

  9. Perfect way to spend hot summer days. I love the train tracks set up on the floor. Lovely.
I have a Janome sewing machine and it is great. It is a QDC model (I think in the UK it is a QXL605). It is my first machine. My husband gave it to me as a present and it has everything that I need (needle up and down, pressure control, thread cutter , extended table and a variety of stitches for decorating and dress making). I had it for about 18 months and never had any problems. I love it.

  10. Sorry I can't recommend a sewing machine. I have only a very basic, American, Singer, not the type that's useful to anyone who really sews. I am more of a hack when it comes to sewing. I can, however admire your photos .. they are lovely, indeed. And it looks like good times with the train tracks - I love it when my children build elaborate set ups like that!
